Set in the charming village of Newton, near Porthcawl, the cottage sits within a remarkable natural landscape that leads seamlessly from dune to beach and onward to the unspoilt Merthyr Mawr Nature Reserve. This extraordinary ecosystem spans over 840 acres, offering ever-changing scenery, rich wildlife, and panoramic coastal views stretching towards Ogmore and across the Bristol Channel to Devon.
The All Wales Coastal Path runs close by, providing a gentle and picturesque walk to Porthcawl Marina and seafront, where you’ll find an excellent selection of cafés, restaurants, and independent shops. Just five minutes on foot brings you to the historic heart of Newton village, home to a twelfth-century church steeped in local legend, a village green, children’s play park, and two welcoming traditional pubs. Convenience stores, a post office, leisure facilities, and an indoor swimming pool are all within easy walking distance.
The name Tegeirian, meaning orchid in Welsh, reflects the cottage’s close connection to nature. Nearby Kenfig National Nature Reserve is home to the rare fen orchid, one of the last remaining places in the UK where this delicate dune flower still thrives.

Merthyr Mawr Sand Dunes form one of the most impressive dune systems in the UK and are a favourite with walkers, families, runners, and wildlife enthusiasts. The dunes have featured in several major films and have even been used by elite athletes for endurance training.
